Our Story
It Starts With Coffee
There is something awesome about the process of enjoying that first cup of the day. I go to bed excited about the coffee I’ll have the next morning. There are lot of reasons my passion for coffee roars daily. Sometimes that first cup is just me, my journal, my Bible, and the Lord. He has spoken many words to my soul during those moments. Getting the overflow of the Spirit’s leading and kindness is everything to my day. Getting to spend time praying without the expectation of doing is everything in these moments. It is where I get to be raw with my words and unpolished in my approach. When my dad died, there were many days when I just needed to go sit with a cup and my grief playlist to cry and process what I had experienced.
There are other days when that first cup is shared with someone else, planned or unplanned. In these moments I get to experience the Spirit’s leading through words, questions, and wandering conversations. The joy of a friend sharing new ideas, or just listening to how God is in their story, over a cup of coffee is so good. Getting to just listen and support those in my life who haven’t had anyone listen to them all week is so satisfying. Then there are the many moments and conversations that become those divine appointments I will never forget.
Coffee has been the backdrop to so much in my life, and experiencing God’s creative work throughout my travels to amazing coffee roasters and shops continues to inspire me.
Much like the house blends I have tried across the country, every place and every cup had this unique story to experience.
House Blend
House Blend exists today because of coffee and creativity that came together to transform my life and many others. I am hard-wired to help others bring great ideas to life, and want to launch a company that exists for churches, non-profits, and leaders to experience that deep level of kingdom joy. I chose the name House Blend because, wherever I go, the coffee I am served is unique to the context of the roaster and coffee shop. While the principles of making coffee are shared across the country, the flavor profiles and experiences are tied to every coffee shop, every roaster, and every drinker.
One-size-fits-all approaches don’t fit every context in the church.
Small churches have an incredible opportunity to be just as impactful as large churches. God has allowed us to plant so many different styles of church methodology and into contexts that vary from city to city. Resources to serve the ideas being born in these places are overflowing and more accessible than ever. Great environments aren’t limited to mega-church budgets, and neither are great ideas. Large churches are tasked with a massive responsibility of resources and need help zooming out so they can find their own lane of impact.
House Blend is rooted in the idea that everyone is elgible for the title creative, and every context has the ability to make a unique impact in the Kingdom.
We want to help them all discover their own house blend approach and in the process see the kingdom benefit in fresh ways and expressions.
